Downfalls

A downfall to owning a GSD is they have early hip problems. Known as Hip and Elbow Dysplasia which can later lead to arthritis.

Another downfall to owning a GSD is they have large ears which leads to them having reoccuring ear infections.

Upside

Good thimgs about GSD are they are hard working very strong and intelligent, they're considered the third smartest dog breed and their muscular abilities make them an ideal work dog.

Well known breed for being used in the police force with their high learning ability. Also used in the Military and to lead the blind.

originated from the german sheep herding dogs in Germany.

 

Temperament

GSD are active dogs they need constant motivation and exercise. They are loyal dogs who are eager to learn and have a purpose. Although they can be very over protective of there territory such as the family who owns them. They need to be well trained not by a firm hand though, there are better methods that are proven more effective also socialize at a young age to become a great dog with a great personality.

 

Von Willebrand Disease- is a common inherited bleeding disorder.

German Shepherds have a higher risk to this disease, it is geneticaly predisposed.

Description

German Shepherd dogs are described as a larger breed of dog they are anywhere form 20 to 26 in. According to the Kennel Club standards the average ideal height would be 25in. in show.

German Shepherd dogs vary in a variety of color. The most common for this breed is black and tan, with a black saddle like marking. Other colors include sabel, red and black, liver and blue also white, although liver and blue are considered faults in a show and white will be disqualified. GSD are known for black markings on the face referred to as black masks. The average life span of the GSD is 7-10 years.
