Info on Anancondas

Anaconda or aquatic boas can be categories as four different species. They are green anaconda, the yellow anaconda, the Dark-Spotted anaconda or Deschauense's Anaconda (Eunectes deschauenseei) , and the Bolivian Anaconda (Eunectes beniensis).

There are two possible origins for the word "anaconda". It is perhaps an alteration of the Sinhalese word "henakanday," meaning "thunder snake," or alternatively, the Tamil word "anaikondran," which means "elephant killer. "It is unclear how the name originated so far from the snake's native habitat. Locals names for the anaconda in South America include the Spanish term "matatoro," meaning "bull killer," and the Native American terms sucuri, yakumama, and jiboia.

Anacondas are constrictors: they suffocate their prey by coiling around it and squeezing. None are venomous and eat anything that dares to cross its path. humans are rarly eatin by anacondas only in extreme hunger will a anaconda attack a human. The anacondas body is dark green with large black dorsal spots and small lateral spots with lighter yellow centres. Adults can grow to more than 9 m (29.5 ft.) in length. The reticulated python is, on average, usually longer than the average anaconda, but because the green anaconda is much heavier than the other large constrictors, if you consider both length and weight, it is the largest snake in the world.

The Green Anaconda

The green anaconda occurs in South America, in the Amazon and Orinoco rivers system, and as far south as Bolivia. It is also found in Trinidad. Anacondas are tied very closely to water, and they are excellent swimmers and divers. Females are significantly larger than males and female anacondas retain their eggs and give birth to two to three dozen live young. From the moment an anaconda is born till adulthood, its biomass increases by 500 times which is much higher than in any other species of snakes. Adults can grow to more than 29.5 ft in length.

The yellow anaconda

Yellow Anacondas are found in the swamps, marshes and rivers of Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Western Brazil and North East Argentina. Yellow Anacondas mainly feed on birds, rodents and fish. They prefer to hunt live prey, but will scavenge for dead animals. Yellow Anacondas breed during the rainy season and usually in the water. They will have litters of 20 - 40 but as many as 100 young are possible.
